MOA convened the national video-conference on on-farm management & crop farming preparation for spring 2014 on Feb. 8. The conference analyzed current situation of grain production, and outlined working priorities of spring crop farming this year.

At the conference, Minister Han Changfu pointed out that, as always, the central authorities placed national food security on top of the agenda of China's economic work in 2014, underlining the importance of agricultural and grain production. This helped to build up our resolve to win another bumper harvest this year.

To this end, agricultural authorities at all levels should adopt effective and pragmatic measures to facilitate spring crop farming, and ensure the summer grain output to register a new high, Minister Han said.

Minister Han called for intensified efforts in the following areas: first, to fully implement relevant policies and strengthen guidance and supervision; second, to maintain the farming acreage of major grain producing regions at the same or higher level over the previous year; third, in terms of technical service, to provide useful instructions, targeted trainings and practical demonstrations to farmers; fourth, to improve the use of farm machinery and coordinate cross-regional operations; and fifth, to ensure the supply of agricultural inputs both in quantity and quality.

The conference also initiated specific programs on anti-low temperature and spring water logging in Northeast China, animal disease prevention & control, production and quality & safety monitoring on vegetable-basket products, and so forth.

Vice Minister Yu Xinrong chaired the conference. Chief Economist Bi Meijia attended the conference.

Sub venues were set at 31 provinces (autonomous regions and municipalities), Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps and 604 cities and counties.

Representatives from Henan, Shannxi, Sichuan and Heilongjiang also delivered speeches.
