First Agrochemical Working Group Meeting for China-Canada Agricultural Cooperation Held in Beijing
     
 
 
Under the auspices of ICAMA, the First Agrochemical Working Group Meeting for China-Canada Agricultural Cooperation was held in Beijing on September 4, 2012.Gu Baogen, Deputy Director-General of ICAMA chaired the meeting. Other participants included officials and experts from Department of International Cooperation of MOA, Pest Management Center of Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, National Agricultural Technology Extension Service Center, as well as National Fertilizer Quality Supervision and Inspection Center, etc.
 
At the meeting, Gu briefed China''s pesticide registration, production, marketing and application. Dr. Sethi introduced the Canada Pest Management Center and pesticide administration on minor crops.  Dr. Fan Hongli of National Fertilizer Quality Supervision and Inspection Center gave a presentation on China''s fertilizer registration management. These exchanging activities enhanced mutual understanding and laid a solid foundation for further technical cooperation.
 
Delegates from both sides also conducted in-depth discussions and studies on the cooperation framework in the following five years, as well as major cooperation activities of 2013.It was decided that in the next 3-5 years, China and Canada should intensify the efforts in personnel training, technology introduction, demonstration project implementation, etc., and carry out cooperation in minor crop pesticides, their application, pesticide risk reduction and fertilizer administration, etc.
 
Delegates from both sides all agreed that an enhanced China-Canada cooperation in pesticide and fertilizer field will contribute to improve the application technology and administration, guarantee agro-product quality and safety, protect environment and ecology safety, and promote the bilateral agricultural trade to a new high.

Related links: In 2011, MOA and Ministry of Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada singed the MOU on Agricultural Cooperation, which specified four cooperation areas including animal husbandry and agro-product quality and safety, etc.
 
In order to implement cooperation activities, the two sides established four working groups for those specific fields. The agrochemical working group is under the leadership of ICAMA, and its member organizations mainly include National Agricultural Technology Extension Service Center and National Fertilizer Quality Supervision and Inspection Center. Deputy Director-General Gu Baogen of ICAMA is the head of the Chinese side.
