Workshop on CODEX MRLs Standard-setting held in Shandong
     
Qingdao--The Workshop on CODEX MRLs Standard-setting was held in Qingdao, Shandong Province during August 27-28, 2012.  Hosted by ICAMA, the event aimed at implementing MRLs standarding-setting to be undertaken by China under the framework of CCPR. 
 
Shan Weili, Director of Residue Control Division, ICAMA chaired the Workshop, and Deputy Director-General Ye Jiming attended and delivered a speech.
 
The Workshop, started with a report by Chinese delegation to the 44th CCPR Session, discussed the projects of MRLs setting concerning proposed revision to four MRLs, specifically two respective MRLs for tebuconazole in cucumber and banana, and two respective MRLs for Acetamiprid (Nippon Soda) in tomato and cucumber. The projects were proposed by Chinese delegation and will be carried out in China with experiments. The specific implementation scheme (draft) was also discussed at the meeting for the execution of the projects.
 
Experts from ITBR-CAAS briefed about the MRLs standard-setting of pesticides in tobacco and its progress both in China and in international community.
 
ICAMA DDG Ye Jiming stated that the proposed CODEX standard-setting plan this time is the second of its kind followed by the previous six MRLs setting of pesticides including the MRL of endosulfan in tea, which were undertaken by China and approved by Codex Alimentarius Commission (CAC).

Ye emphasized on the authority of CODEX standards in international trade and influence on MRLs setting for all countries. Therefore, he required that all participant institutions should attach great importance to the implementation of standard-setting project, assign capable and competent personnel and refine the working scheme to ensure its prompt completion with high quality. 
 
Ye also called on all relevant agencies to intensify engagement in standard-setting, boost China''s international influence in standard-setting.
 
Nearly 40 representatives attended the Workshop, including DG Yang Lijian of Shandong ICA, DDG Zhang Zhongfeng of ITBR-CAAS, and experts from the Institute of Plant Protection (IPP) of CAAS and the Plant Protection Research Institute (PPRI) of Guangdong Academy of Agricultural Sciences (GDAAS) .
