China and Thailand holds exchange activities on pesticide regulation

A 5-person Thailand delegation headed by Deputy Director General of Department of Agriculture of Thailand Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives, Dr. Manthana Milne visited China from September 17 to 21. ICAMA Director General, Sui Pengfei, received the delegation during their stay in Beijing.  The two sides held the Third Meeting of the China-Thailand Pesticides Regulation Working Group. ICAMA Deputy Director General Gu Baogen, Chief Agronomist Ji Ying, and Dr. Manthana Milne attended and addressed the meeting.

Deputy Director Gu Baogen stated that China-Thailand Pesticides Regulation Working Group, a new working mechanism established in 2010, has substantially promoted bilateral communication and cooperation on pesticide regulation and contributed to the growth of bilateral agricultural trade. It can serve as an effective model for China''s cooperation with other countries on pesticide regulation. Dr. Milne pointed out that China supplies over 70% of the pesticides in Thailand''s pesticide market and is also the biggest exporting market for Thailand''s Fruit Industry. Therefore, stronger cooperation on pesticide regulation between the two nations is of great importance in ensuring food safety of both countries.  During the meeting, experts from the two sides discussed a range of issues including GLP system, Thailand's latest policies on pesticide regulation, recognition of test reports from Chinese GLP certified labs and problems concerning the registration of Chinese pesticides in Thailand, and provided their views and suggestions on these issues.

During their visit, accompanied by the Chief Agronomist Ji Ying, the Thai delegation also visited the GLP Certified Lab of Shenyang Research Institute of Chemical Industry, Shandong Hailir Pesticides and Chemical Group, Rainbow Chemical in Weifang City of Shandong Province, and Shandong Luba Chemical Co., Ltd.

Through the meeting and theses visits, the two sides have reached consensus on recognition of reports by Chinese GLP certified labs, which will be of great help for further expansion of the market of Chinese pesticides in Thailand.
