Workshop on Testing Technology for Hidden Ingredients in Pesticide held in Liaoning

ICAMA held a Workshop on Testing Technology for Hidden Ingredients in Pesticide in Dandong City of Liaoning Province on August 8-9th, 2013.

Gu Baogen, DDG of ICAMA attended and addressed the Workshop while Chen Tiechun, director for ICAMA Pesticide Quality Evaluation Division chaired the Workshop.

Dr. Cao Lidong from the Institute of Plant Protection of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS-IPP) introduced the research progress for qualitative and quantitative analysis methods for 24 pesticides prohibited or restricted in use, briefed participants about the results of quality testing for pesticide samples by random sampling.  Participants had an in-depth discussion on testing methods and quality testing, and came up with targeted proposals. The Workshop made guidance for future work plan.

In his speech, Gu emphasized the significance of the Workshop, saying that it is of great importance to develop testing technology for these "inert" ingredients in pesticides especially for agri-product quality and safety and safeguarding consumers'' interests. Given illegal behavior of adding these less-easily detected and unregistered ingredients into pesticides, more effective technical tools shall be developed and incorporated into quality supervision over pesticides.

Participants attended the Workshop, representing ICAMA, provincial ICAs of Liaoning and Hainan, CAAS-IPP, Shenyang-based National Pesticide Quality Supervision and Inspection Center as well as Donggang Agriculture Bureau.

After the Workshop, participants visited Donggang Agriculture Bureau and inspected pesticide distributor to get the first-hand information about pesticides marketing.
