The municipal Party committee of Changsha city in Hunan province approved a three-year plan (2015-17) on Jan 12 to steer the integrated development of its urban and rural areas.

The city is seeking to probe into a new type of urban-rural relationship and development mode, and build itself into a model for urban-rural integrated development in the country in three years' time.

The whole project will be grounded on the Changsha Modern Agriculture Comprehensive Complementary Reform Experimental Area, established in 2014 with its 15 pilot towns.

Under the plan, Changsha will build more than one model town respectively in Changsha county, Wangcheng district, Liuyang city and Ningxiang county, which feature a booming economy, sound infrastructure, a moderate scale, resource-conservation and environmentally-friendly. Meanwhile, it will speed up the building of more than 10 functional towns with distinct highlights, comprehensive functions, and unique industries.

The city will also build two horizontal channels to fully connect its northern and southern districts, and renovate 10 urban connection trunks, to optimize the local traffic pattern.
