Several new radio programs were launched and officially broadcasted on Feb 5 in the village of Dunmaili, in the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region. The programs are the first in the village to be broadcasted in the Uygur language.

According to Shatigul, the village's broadcaster, the new programs mainly touch on topics that peak the villagers' interest, such as agricultural news, new rural construction information, and health and lifestyle tips.

Shatigul said that the radio station added some new programs in Uygur language because most of the villagers are Uygur and cannot understand [mandarin].

"We want to disseminate more policies and information that will benefit farmers and locals through broadcasting," she added.

The radio station also received support from the local government and Party committee. Dunmaili village's announcer, Shatigul, broadcasts a program in the Uygur language. [Photo/ www.cnchemicals.com]
