The Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region arranged a cotton forum, in the capital city, Urumqi, on Nov 23, and invited a dozen experts to discuss new acquisition criteria, efficient cotton production, processing, and technology applications.
The group took a close look at the challenges the region faces in improving cotton production, disease and pest prevention, mechanized picking, and the influence of the textile industry on cotton and demands for cotton quality.
The region produces a large amount of cotton, with many farmers engaged in the business and, in 2013, had 1,700,000 hectares producing more than 3,500,000 tons of cotton.
