SLC Agricola announces increased acreage for cotton, soy, corn

SLC Agrícola S.A. announces its first planting schedule for the 2013-14 marketing year, with a 22.5% increase in planted area for cotton, 22.8% increase for soy and 2.4% increase for corn.

The company, one of Brazil's largest landowners and one of the largest agricultural producers of cotton, soy and corn in terms of planted area, reported that in 2012-13 it has lost productivity mainly in soy and corn first crop, basically due to the droughts in December and February in the states of Bahia, Piauí and Goiás, which affected the production potential of the fields. For the crop year 2013-14 the company is estimating the normalisation of the climatic factors, enabling to reach the standard yields that it has achieved over the years.

SLC Agrícola has 962,000 tonnes production in 2011-12 marketing year and keeps fourteen farms located in six Brazilian states, which added up to 282,600 hectares cultivated with cotton, soyand corn in 2012--13 crop year. The company owns 319,800 hectares of land.

The government's crop supply agency Conab expects a consecutive record crop from Brazil of between 87.6 million tonnes and 89.7 million tonnes, with area planted expanding between 3.4% and 5.9% from the 2012-13 season.
