DuPont''s Aproach Prima fungicide granted registration approval by US agency

US chemical company, DuPont, announces that its Aproach Prima fungicide has been granted registration approval by the US Environmental Protection Agency.

The product is marketed towards corn, soybean and wheat growers.

Consisting of the same unique strobilurin active ingredient as the DuPont Aproach fungicide, Aproach Prima includes triazole which supports the product''s dual protection ability to preserve yield potential and manage fungicide-resistant diseases.

Systemic movement within a plant allows the strobilurin in Aproach Prima to combat against serious crop diseases on all plant surfaces like frogeye leaf spot, a major soybean disease in the South and mid-South regions of the US, which has recently spread into northern growing areas. The fungicide also keeps crops from damage due to Septoria brown spot, downy mildew, soybean rust, gray leaf spot, Northern corn leaf blight, common rust and Southern rust.

In addition, the combination of two premier fungicides in Aproach Prima controls strobilurin-resistant fungal pathogens, while maintaining plant health under stressful conditions.

Field trials of Aproach Prima have been conducted in the US, with results demonstrating its effectiveness to reduce the incidence of disease and severity levels.

In soybeans, the fungicide decreased severity of resistant frogeye leafspot by more than 67% and increased yield by six bushels per acre over soybeans left untreated with fungicide. The incidence of soybean rust fell by 92% compared with untreated control plots, while Syngenta''s Quilt Xcel fungicide reportedly reduced rust incidence by a lower 42%. The figure means that Aproach Prima purportedly helped to deliver an increased soybean yield of16 bushels per acre over Quilt Xcel plots.

In seed corn, Aproach Prima was shown to maintain green leaf area more effectively and raise yield by more than 11 bushels per acre versus untreated acres, thus surpassing the potency of other fungicides.

In a winter wheat trial, the fungicide reduced the severity of powdery mildew by nearly 99% and Septoria tritici (the cause of Septoria leaf blotch) by nearly 85%, compared with disease reductions of 89% and 65%, respectively, by Quilt Xcel.

The Aproach Prima fungicide is currently not registered for sale or use in all US states.
