Brazil's 2013-14 corn harvest to decline to 75.6 million tonnes
In the 2013-14 growing season, Brazilian farmers will harvest a total of 75.6 million tonnes of corn, a decline from the previous season, consultancy Safras & Mercado estimated.
According to Safras, Brazil produces two crops of corn each season. The summer crop will reach 28.2 million tonnes, and the second crop will be 47.4 million tonnes.
In the 2012-13 season the country's farms grew 82.1 million tonnes of the grain, according to the consultancy.
The area planted with cornwill fall by 5.1% to 14.4 million hectares (35.6 million acres), Safras said.
