China's dairy imports soar in first five months of 2014

   

   


According to China's Customs General Administration, from January to May this year, the country's imports of liquid milk products surged 32% on-year to 118,100 tonnes, while imports of cattle breeders rose significantly by 68% on-year to 56,076 head.

   


Of the total milk imports, fresh milk accounted for 113,100 tonnes, soaring by 33% on-year; while yogurt imports rose by 16% on-year to 5,022 tonnes.

   


The top exporters of milk products to China during this period were Germany, New Zealand, France and Australia.

   


Of the total imports of cattle, dairy cattle, which included Holstein and Jersey breed, accounted for 54,130 head. As for beef cattle, Angus and Simmental cattle totalled 1,751 head and 195 head, respectively.
