India's Delhi high court has dismissed a plea requesting for the government to take immediate steps to prevent supply of adulterated milk in the capital while also holding back further hikes of milk prices.
The court rejected social worker Sharad Tiwari's plea which had sought to constitute a committee to monitor the cost of milk production and its sale price. It also stated that Mother Dairy and the government should not hike the price more than once in two years.
"Over the last six years, the milk price has been increasing continuously and the government should be directed to fix the price of milk with reasonable profit to the traders," according to a statement from the plea.
