China's Xinjiang to plant high yielding wheat in 5 million mu of land

Xinjiang plans to plant high-yielding wheat fields in 5 million mu of land ( 333,300 hectares) where wheat can be produced at 15 kg more per mu than above average.

Starting today, Xinjiang intends to set up plots of land measuring 50,000 mu to 10,000 mu in counties producing food crop. The move is to guarantee the stability of grain supplies and reserves.

To stimulate farmers' interest, Xinjiang has provided various wheat growing subsidies and other direct subsidies for diesel, fertilizers, farm costs and other agricultural means of production for grain farmers.

Next year, the province is going to spend more than RMB 10 million (US$1.46 ) on 3 seed improvement projects.
