India''s poultry feed prices may rise on high input costs

Prices of poultry feed products in India may become expensive by the end of this week brought about by rising prices of soy and other key feed ingredients.

Lower supply and concern over crop output may push poultry feed products further up by at least INR100 (US$1.81) for a 30-kilogramme and 50-kilogramme bag by the end of this week, said Subhash Sharma, Financial Head, Sarvottam Poultry Feed Supply Centre. Soymeal prices have increased by INR1,100-1,150 (US$20-21) a quintal over the last one month. On Wednesday (July 18), soymeal prices increased by INR400 (US$7.25) and quoted at around INR4,300 (US$78). Similarly, corn prices went up by INR80 (US$1.45) to INR1,350 (US$24.5) a quintal.

Bajra increased by INR90 (US$1.63) and settled at INR1,200 (US$21.76) a quintal, DCP went up by INR5 (US$0.09) and quoted at INR41 (US$0.74) a kilogramme, while fish oil sold at INR85 (US$1.54) a litre, INR3 (US$0.05) up from previous level.

After a price rise last week, prices of poultry feed products have been kept unchanged since then. Broiler concentrates feed quoted at INR1,830 (US$33) for a 50-kilogramme bag. Broiler Starter Mash sold at INR1,350 (US$24.5).

"Broiler Pre-Starter Concentrate 30%" sold at INR1,540 (US$28) for a 30-kilogramme bag, while layer concentrate cost INR1,390 (US$25) for a 50-kilogramme bag. Pre-lay mash quoted at INR900 (US$16) while broiler finisher sold at INR1,330 (US$24) for a 50-kilogramme bag.

Meanwhile, slack demand pulled egg, broiler and chick prices further down, on Wednesday (July 18). Broiler prices were at INR85-90 (US$1.54-1.63) a kilogramme. The price of an egg went down by INR0.11 (US$0.002) to INR2.54 (US$0.05), while that of chick went down by INR7 (US$0.13) to INR15 (US$0.3).
