Syngenta Vietnam to use bar code technology to stop fake pesticides

In a bid to halt fake pesticides, Syngenta Vietnam plans to use bar code technology in production of its pesticides.

Farmers could use cell phones to verify whether the product is real or fake by sending the code printed in the packing to the company, Syngenta Vietnam said.

The information will also help the company and Vietnamese authorities to find the place where the fake pesticide products are being sold.

The move comes after farmers across the country complained that they bought fake fungicide Amistar Top 325 SC.

Around 60 hectares of rice in the southern province of Kien Giang had been destroyed after being sprayed with the fake product. Syngenta Vietnam committed to support the farmers, compensate partly the losses they incurred.

Syngenta Vietnam will disseminate information on its products, helping farmers to avoid fake product usage.

The firm is one of leading firms in Vietnam, providing pesticides and crop seeds for local farmers.
