India's March urea output drops 9% past target

   

   

   

For the month of March, the urea production in India stood at 17.28 lakh tonnes, 9% under the 18.93 lakh tonnes target set for the month.

   

   

"In March, 2012 production of urea was 17.28 lakh tonnes against the target of 18.93 lakh tonnes," an official release said today.

   

   

However, the output of Di-ammonium Phosphate (DAP), another important crop nutrient, during March was higher at 3.10 lakh tonnes against the target of 3.03 lakh tonnes, it added.

   

   

"Further, sale of urea in the current season up to March 31, 2012 was about 151.16 lakh tonnes which is lower by 3.15% as compared to the sale of 156.08 lakh tonnes in the corresponding period of the previous year," it said.

   

   

During March 2012, about 21.25 lakh tonnes of urea was dispatched to various states and the availability of the crop nutrient during the month was about 24.94 lakh tonnes, the statement added.

   

   

The availability of DAP and muriate of potash (MoP) in March 2012 had been about 18.56 lakh tonnes and 7.28 lakh tonnes, respectively.

   

   

India imported 1.59 lakh tonnes of urea from Oman India Fertilizer Company, Oman. The country also imported 0.25 lakh tonnes of DAP and 1.18 lakh tonnes of MOP.
