Juncao Technology is defined as a comprehensive series of techniques to cultivate edible and medicinal fungi and produce mycelium protein forage with Juncao, which is a type of herbal plant.

The technology was first invented by Fujian Agriculture and Forestry University in 1983, and has greatly contributed to Chinese diplomacy and Fujian enterprises' exchanges with their international counterparts, such as through foreign-aid programs, during the last three decades.

Julie Soso, governor of Eastern Highlands province in Papua New Guinea, highlighted the significance of China's Juncao technology in boosting the local economy, as Juncao is both a staple food and major source of income for local people.

A friendship treaty between Fujian province and Eastern Highlands province was signed in Fuzhou in 2000, by then-Governor Xi Jinping, who is the current Chinese president, she added.

As an emerging ecological industry, Juncao industry can efficiently utilize solar power, soil, and water, and is likely to maximize social, economic, and ecological benefits of the areas where Juncao technology are applied, said Lin Zhanxi, chief scientist at the China National Engineering Research Center of Juncao technology.

In the end, an initial proposal to jointly develop Juncao industry, solidify international exchanges and cooperation, and advance Juncao's technological innovation was signed at the symposium by representatives from all participating countries.
