The success of manned space flight of Shenzhou 7 made China the third country to master independently developed key extra-vehicular technologies in the world.

The liquid rubber, developed and produced by PetroChina Lanzhou Petrochemical Company, was successfully applied in the escape system of the Shenzhou 7 manned spacecraft as the adhesive for solid rocket propellant.

Ever since supplying sample products for Shenzhou 1 to supporting the extra-vehicular activities of Shenzhou 7, Lanzhou Petrochemical had been responsible for the development and production of the key and specialized rubber used in China's aerospace industry. The polybutadiene liquid rubber and its enhanced chain extender both played critical roles in the launches of Shenzhou spacecrafts, and made due contributions to the development of China's aerospace industry.
