HOMBITAN LW S U 100 sets new standards in the man-made fibers industry

Paris. Greenwich. Duisburg. Paris is home to the international prototype meter. Greenwich sets the world＇s standard time. And, since 1978, HOMBITAN LW S U, from Duisburg, has been the standard for the global man-made fibers industry.

Market leader status also means accepting special responsibility for quality, and for this reason, titanium dioxide specialties producer Sachtleben initiated in 2010 a wide-ranging Research & Development project at its Duisburg location, with the aim of making good even better. The results are further optimized and particularly uniformly fine titanium dioxide particles marketed under the HOMBITAN LW S U 100 product designation for the demanding polyester staple fiber and filament production process. Special organic coating of the particle surfaces, combined with optimization of the production process, has made it possible to supply TiO2 anatase specialties incorporating even lower powder and yarn abrasion, an even more intensive blue undertone, and further improved dispersibility. Thus also now possible is the production of man-made fibers that, thanks to their exceptional whiteness, approach the "natural-fiber look" even more closely and, at the same time, cause less wear on system components, such as thread guides, for example, and permit optimization of production processes. The researchers naturally made sure that this new TiO2 generation retains all of the positive properties of the original tried and proven LW S U branded product. In addition to the fascinating new potentials mentioned, the complex development work, extending over nearly three years, also took the greatest care to assure a risk-free market launch for Sachtleben＇s international customers. Sachtleben＇s aim is now to achieve complete conversion of all existing and new customers to the "value-added" HOMBITAN LW S U 100 grade by the end of next year. LW S U is one of the focal products in Sachtleben＇s portfolio in terms of production volume and importance to customers. The "Made in Germany" finished products will continue to be supplied in environmentally friendly 25 kg bags (875 kg per palette) and in 500 and 1000 g big bags.
