In Feb. 2013, China imported 5,033.0 tonnes of fresh cassava and 735,788.5 tonnes of dry cassava. The import volume of fresh cassava decreased further after a drop in Jan. 2013, since the extracting season was close to an end, while the import volume of dry cassava increased due to the decrease of fresh cassava supply.

In Feb. 2013, all the fresh cassava was still imported from Vietnam into Yunnan province. In Feb. 2013, China's import volume of fresh cassava decreased sharply from 26,458.0 tonnes in Jan. 2013 to 5,033.0 tonnes in Feb. 2013, down about 81.0%. Generally, the period from Oct. till Jan. is the peak production of fresh cassava. Since then, the supply of fresh cassava will decrease continuously. From Aug. 2012 to Feb. 2013, China has already imported 125,754.3 tonnes of fresh cassava with an average price of USD69.4/t. The decreasing supply of fresh cassava also pushed up its price, with the average import price increasing slightly from USD69.7/t in Jan. 2013 to USD71.6/t in Feb. 2013.

  - Domestic dry cassava import destination and import origin
In Feb. 2013, Thailand was still the largest cassava exporter to China, with 520,128.5 tonnes, while Vietnam exported 209,894.8 tonnes. Jiangsu and Shandong were the top two destinations of China's imported dry cassava.

  - Import volume and import price
The Chinese market demand for cassava keeps increasing since cassava is seen as the best non-grain crop. If the supply of fresh cassava decreases, more dry cassava will be imported to China. In Feb. 2013, China imported 735,788.5 tonnes of dry cassava, up 18.47% month on month, with an average price of USD243.1/t , close to that in Jan. 2013.
