On 19 Oct., 2012, the high-profile list, namely 2012 China Top 100 Pesticide Manufacturers, was released by China Crop Protection Industry Association (CCPIA) at the 12th National Agrochemical Exchange Meeting during 19 Oct., to 21 Oct., 2012, according to CCM’s October issue of South America Crop Protection Monthly Report.

The top 100 pesticide manufacturers in China are ranked according to the companies' pesticide revenue in 2011. The total pesticide revenue of the top 100 pesticide manufacturers in 2011 reached USD9.81 billion, up 23.6% over that in 2010 and accounting for 44.6% of the total revenue of 1,452 pesticide manufacturers in China in 2011.

Zhejiang Wynca Chemical Industry Group Co., Ltd. (Zhejiang Wynca), a large listed pesticide company in China mainly engaged in glyphosate and organosilicone business, retains No. 1 with its pesticide revenue of USD339.14 million in 2011 (it ranked the first with its pesticide revenue of USD294.96 million in 2010). The second place and the third place respectively go to Jiangsu Yangnong Chemical Co., Ltd. and Hubei Sanonda Co., Ltd. with their pesticide revenues of USD293.19 million and USD269.41 million in 2011 respectively (The second place and the third place respectively went to Jiangsu Yangnong Chemical Co., Ltd. and Zhejiang Jinfanda Biochemical Co., Ltd. with their revenues of USD235.59 million and USD229.13 million in 2010 respectively).

The total pesticide revenue of the top 10 pesticide manufacturers adds up to USD2.49 billion, accounting for 25.41% of the total pesticide revenue of the top 100 pesticide manufacturers in this period and up 21.46% over that of 2010.

It is calculated that there are 16 pesticide manufacturers enjoying pesticide revenue in 2011 exceeding USD158.48 million (RMB1 billion), six more than the number in 2010 and a double of the number in 2009. The total pesticide revenue of these pesticide manufacturers adds up to USD3.56 billion, accounting for 36.33% of the 2011 total pesticide revenue of the top 100 pesticide manufacturers in 2012.

Jiangsu Province, Zhejiang Province and Shandong Province are still the top three pesticide producing provinces which own the most competitiveness pesticide manufacturers in China. Among the 2012 top 100 pesticide manufacturers, there are 72 located in the three provinces above.

Along with the releasing of 2012 China Top 100 Pesticide Manufacturers, the CCPIA also released 2012 China Top 30 Pesticide Formulation Manufacturers. Total pesticide revenue of these formulation manufacturers in 2011 reached USD1.33 billion. Shenzhen Noposion Agrochemical Co., Ltd., ranking the 5th place in 2012 China Top 100 Pesticide Manufacturers, reaches No. 1 in 2012 China Top 30 Pesticide Formulation Manufacturers with total pesticide revenue of USD242.47 million, almost twice larger than the pesticide revenues of the companies in the second and third place of the list, namely Jiangsu Rotam Chemistry Co., Ltd. and Syngenta (Suzhou) Crop Protection Co., Ltd.

It is pleased to see the growth of total pesticide revenue of the top 100 pesticide manufacturers, which represents the main competitiveness of domestic pesticide enterprises, in 2011. However, owing to the weak R&D strength, backward production technologies, etc., domestic pesticide enterprises still lack good competitiveness while facing international pesticide giants. Chinese government is now struggling to change the situation that domestic pesticide manufacturers are in and plans to help them to boost international competitiveness by carrying out industry integration policies. The growing pesticide revenue of the top 100 pesticide manufacturers seems to hint that the policies have taken effect in domestic pesticide industry, but the result seems to be still far away from the goal. According to the Pesticide Industry Policy, released in Sept. 2010, it set the goal that the revenue of the 20 largest pesticide companies should account for over 50% of the overall industry sales by 2015 and over 70% by 2020. The 2010 total pesticide revenue of the top 20 pesticide manufacturers in 2011 was merely USD4.13 billion, accounting for only 18.79% of the industry overall revenue.
