On 22 June, proposed approval on Jilin Meihua's 300,000 t/a Lysine and Supporting Engineering Project by Baicheng Municipal Ecological Environment Bureau is released. The project, with a total investment of USD341.35 million (RMB2.17 billion), is to be put into trial production on 30 Dec. 2021 and to process 865,800 t/a corn after its official commencement.

By the end of May, Huakang Pharma had finished the main-body construction, equipment installation and debugging, plus other work necessary for starting its 30,000 t/a sorbitol technology adaptation project, and the project had been in the trial production stage in all respects. Once the project commences production, it will contribute another 30,000 t/a of crystalline sorbitol to Huakang Pharma and enlarge the company's product supply. This will not only provide a new source of profit growth for the company, but will also increase both its core competitiveness and profitability.

On 18 June, Sino-US Cargill Biotech Industrial Park had six new projects launch production together, which would help facilitate clusterisation processes of corn deep-processing industry in Songyuan. The day before that, Cargill Inc. and United Nations World Food Programme co-started a three-year pilot project of integrated agricultural risks management, helping corn farmers in the pilot area raise their resilience against impacts.

Henan Jinyumi, a subsidiary of Mengzhou Jinyumi, plans to establish a 200,000 t/a starch sugar (functional starch sugar included) project, with a total investment of USD166.74 million (RMB1.06 billion).

On 26 May, Heilongjiang Agriculture and Agricultural Products Processing Project Investment Promotion Conference was successfully held, which aimed to invite enterprises of all kinds in this industry to pay a visit to Heilongjiang, negotiate businesses, and start investment and entrepreneurship in the province. The conference stressed that Heilongjiang Province at large would focus on processing business of such competitive crops as corn, rice, and soybean in future. By 2025, the whole industry chain of corn in the entire province will expand by 20%, with a net increase of USD15.73 billion (RMB100 billion) in output value.

Central government fund channeled great efforts into financing indigenous GM breeding giants. On 11 June, Longping High-Tech released an announcement that Central SOEs Fund obtained 34.17% shares of its subsidiary Longping Biotech at a total value of USD64.49 million (RMB410 million). On 27 April earlier this year, Modern Seeds Funds and Central SOEs Fund had already invested in another GM breeding giant—DBN Biotech, a subsidiary of DBN Group.

In Q2 of 2021, China's MSG price dropped month by month with the average ex-works price standing at USD1283.55/t, down 2.58% compared to the figure in Q1. The main factors accounting for the price drop included a small cut in the price of raw material corn, the pileup of MSG inventory resulted from weak demand in downstream market and decreasing exports.

China's citric acid exports continued the downward trend between Jan. and April 2021, mainly because the export prices of citric acid in China have rapidly increased since the start of this year, eroding its exporting advantage, plus the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic which has led to a weak export demand for citric acid. It's worth noting that the European Commission issued an announcement on 15 April that it decided to continue to impose anti-dumping duties on the imports from China's citric acid enterprises, which is predicted to cause extra restrictions to China's citric acid exports.
