On 7 Feb., DBN predicted that based on the sufficient experimental data it has collected in the past 3 years, it will likely soon receive a plant variety right certificate for its GM corn if the FAW infestation is serious this year. It then announced on 20 Feb. that it will charge for the use of its transgenic technology for corn and soybean species, in light of its global advancement.

On 6 Feb., the Customs Tariff Commission of the State Council announced its decision to cut additional tariffs imposed on USD75 billion worth of US imports from 10% to 5% from 13:01 on 14 Feb., 2020, including some corn-related goods; and on 17 Feb., it said domestic companies will be able to apply for exclusion from additional tariffs China slapped on US imports as countermeasures against Section 301 during a certain period.

On 9 Feb., Jilin Fuel Alcohol received a production licence for disinfection products issued by the provincial/municipal health commissions. With a 600,000 t/a fuel ethanol capacity, Jilin Fuel Alcohol now is capable of producing 120 tonnes of 75% medical alcohols per day, alleviating disinfectant undersupply on the market.

To increase feed supply in south China, the NGTC on 7 Feb. commenced trades of 2.96 million tonnes of policy-based corn through price bidding on platforms of the GTCC of the National Food and Strategic Reserves Administration, and related provincial/municipal/district national grain trade centers. Those corn will be stored in Hubei, Hunan, Guangdong provinces and other 12 provinces/cities/districts, and will be purchased by feed processing enterprises only outside Jilin, Liaoning, and Heilongjiang provinces and Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.
