On 3 April, China's CSIA issued a Monthly Analysis Report of the Corn Deep-processing Industry for March. It indicated that compared to Feb., the operating rates of domestic corn starch and starch sugar enterprises greatly increased, citric acid and lysine companies rebounded slowly, but ethanol and MSG declined slightly.

In the past 3 months, Zhengbang Sci & Tech, Tecon, DBN, TRS, and Tech-bank achieved significant growth due to substantially increased pig prices caused by reduced supply under ASF; and at the same time, Wens, Muyuan Foodstuff, Zhengbang Sci & Tech and Tech-bank succeeded in reversing their last year's profit loss. However, pig prices are expected to drop this month, as hogs and reserved pork stored by the central government would be put on the market again in mid-April – after the previous launching in mid and late March.

On 16 April, MeiHua Group reported 2019 revenue of USD2.06 billion (RMB14.55 billion, up 15.10% YoY), net profits of USD139.90 million (RMB990 million, down 1.30%), and gross margin of 22.60% (down 2.30 percentage points).

This month, Chinese MSG price continued dropping and hit record low over the past 3 years, due to low corn price, intense price competition, and a grim economy. Although MSG price began to fall in H2 2019, main manufacturers' business results for 2019 still outperformed that for 2018.

On 31 March, Fufeng Group reported 17.50% growth in turnover for 2019, due to significant markups in MSG and increased revenues from MSG, starch sweeteners and lysine.

At the 2020 China Agricultural Outlook Conference convened on 20 April, a "China Agricultural Outlook Report (2020–2029)" was published by the MOA with market analysis on corn, wheat, soybean, and other 15 key domestic agricultural products in 2019, as well as forecasts for related production, consumption, trade, and price trend over the next 10 years, particularly in 2020, 2025, and 2029.

On 9 April, the NAHS published a Report on Quality and Safety of Chinese Corn Silage for 2019, showing that last year, 85%+ of domestic corn silage got a "good" grade quality, of which 9% was at an "excellent" level with the average CSQS value increasing by 6.10% YoY to 61, basically on a par with the US average. Meanwhile, the report also indicates that quality varied across different regions, livestock farms and breeding scales.

With total investment of USD91.80 million (RMB650 million), Haotian Corn's corn deep-processing renovation & extension project was commenced construction on 28 March and is expected to be operated before 1 Jan., 2021. Upon completion of the construction, Haotian Corn's corn processing capacity will be raised from 600,000 t/a to 1.20 t/a tonnes, and will be able to produce 420,000 t/a of cornstarch, 45,000 t/a of corn germ, 75,000 t/a of feeds, and 42,000 t/a of protein powder.

In Jan.–Feb., China imported 932,246.51 tonnes of corn (up 64.75% YoY) at a price of USD213.30/t (down 1.97% YoY), while it exported 1,184 tonnes in total (up 186.57%). Although some countries have limited their food exports due to COVID–19, China's corn market will not be impacted significantly in the short term.
