This month, Chinese corn price rose by 9.02% from April's USD268.47/t to USD292.69/t; however, the long-term figure will be unlikely to remain on the upward trend due to auctions of corn temporarily stored by the state.

On 12 May, the Chinese MOA published a CASDE for May, predicting supply and demand of the corn sector for 2020/21 – total output of 267 million tonnes (up 2.20%), annual import of 5 million tonnes (up 1 million tonnes), and consumption of 285 million tonnes (up 2.40%).

On 27 April, Alibaba Group commenced the "Digital Granary" programme in Wanquan District of Zhangjiakou City, Hebei Province, in which China's 1st digital organic fresh corn base will be built. Alibaba Group is expected to exclusively sell local fresh corn worth up to USD14.15 million (RMB100 million) per year.
