In early Sept. 2017, the Plant Protection Station of Heyang County, Shaanxi Province released the latest pest and disease occurrence on corn, suggesting timely prevention and control of corn borers, northern leaf blight and southern leaf blight in later growth periods.

As late rice grown in Hunan begins heading, major pests and diseases shows signs of heavier occurrence. Recent field monitoring results found that asiatic borers were in large quantities, plant hoppers in increasing amount, and rice blast and false smut with high possibility of wide spread. Therefore, farmers are advised to keep a close eye on fields and make timely prevention and control during this period.

The Hubei Plant Protection Station predicts overall moderate occurrence of sixth-generation plant hoppers and leaf rollers on rice, with heavy strikes in parts. Peak occurrence may come between late Aug. and early Sept.

The Plant Protection Station of Tongzhou District, Beijing found downy mildew, owlet moths and striped flea beetles in relatively wide occurrence during the field surveys to Songzhuang, Lucheng, Xiji and Guoxian in Aug. 2017. Given this, it advises timely prevention and control with recommended pesticides.

The Anhui Plant Protection Station predicted moderate to heavy pest and disease strikes on corn in late growth stages in 2017. The occurrence area of major pests and diseases will be around 1.73 million ha (26 million mu) and prevention area was about 666,666 ha (10 million mu).

The Anhui Plant Protection Station forecasts heavy occurrence of pests and diseases on rice during the autumn of 2017. The provincial cumulative stricken area is estimated to reach 3.33 million ha (50 million mu).

Hebei forecasts overall moderate occurrence of fourth-generation cotton bollworm – slight on cotton, but relatively heavy on corn, peanuts, vegetables and soybean. This generation is expected to occur 2-5 days earlier than average year, with larvae occurrence to peak from late Aug. to mid-Sept.

As of the end of Aug. 2017, corn pests and diseases struck moderately in China. The cumulative national stricken areas totalled 32.00 million ha (480.00 million mu), mainly by corn borers, cotton bollworms, aphids, northern leaf blight, southern leaf blight, southern rust and brown spot.

As of the end of Aug. 2017, the overall occurrence of rice plant hoppers and lead rollers stayed slight to moderate in China, reported the NATESC. Yet, the two migratory pests remained heavy southern planting regions, especially regions south of the lower reach of the Changjiang River and areas along the middle and lower reaches of the Changjiang River.

On 2 Sept., the 2017 China Agricultural Means of Production Technology Expo and China's Brand Name Agricultural Produce Exchange was held in Nanjing City, Jiangsu Province, during which the 2016 China's Top 100 Agricultural Means of Production Enterprises was released by the China Agricultural Means of Production Association. The top three were China National Agricultural Means of Production Group Corporation, Zhejiang AMP Incorporation, and Anhui Huilong Agricultural Means of Production Co., Ltd.

Upon the end of Aug. 2017, Guangxi has saw occurrence of bacterial leaf streak in many late rice planting areas, and bacterial leaf blight in some. Plant hoppers remained below prevention standard in most of the region, but occurred in large quantities in parts, where timely prevention and control are in urgent need.

The Fujian Plant Protection Station forecasts heavy pest and disease occurrence on rice during the mid-to-late growth periods of 2017, with occurrence area to total o.43 million ha (6.50 million mu). Particularly, rice plant hoppers, leaf rollers and sheath blight are estimated to strike heavily, alongside overall moderate occurrence of borers, blast and false smut.

On 7 Aug., 2017, the Guangxi Plant Protection Station, Nanjing Scienx and the National Center for International Collaboration Research on Precision Agricultural Aviation Pesticide Spraying Technology signed to cooperate on promoting development of innovative agricultural drone-dedicated pesticides and precise aviation pesticide spraying technologies. In the coming three years, the three parties will select grain and cash crop seeds and set up a demonstration base for related technological experiements and displays.
