On 12 May, NATESC held an online meeting on the 2020 Early Rice Diseases and Pests Forecast. At the meeting, based on the analysis of the current population of the pathogens and pests, the distribution of rice varieties, and climatic conditions, it's predicted that there will be relatively heavy occurrence of major rice pests and diseases across the nation in 2020, with a total of approximately 16.93 million ha of rice field expected to be affected, the same as 2019's level.

On 20 April, 2020, NATESC held a Spring Analytical Conference on China's Production, Supply and Demand of Seeds in 2020. On the meeting, influence of COVID-19 towards seeds production and operation in China was further studied, seeds market running situation in spring was analyzed, production intention of seed sown in spring and summer and growth dynamics of seeds sown in autumn and winter were investigated, and work tasks for the next period were arranged.

With the stabilizing epidemic of COVID-19 in China and the implementation of lockdown in India in March, 2020, the operating rate of China's producer of chlorpyrifos increased and export orders went up. Besides, the locust plague in countries such as Pakistan further drove up the overseas demand for chlorpyrifos. Therefore, China's export volume of chlorpyrifos in March witnessed a significant increase when compared with that in Feb., and related domestic companies gained more development opportunities.

As the outbreak of COVID-19 in China came under control in March, 2020, enterprises were back up and running again, including the azoxystrobin TC producers. However, things were getting worse overseas, leading to limited overseas production and exports. Against such a backdrop, China's azoxystrobin was presented with an opportunity to expand its share on the global market. In March, the export volume of China's azoxystrobin experienced a sharp increase, especially that of the azoxystrobin formulations.

In early 2020, China's export of paraquat was not optimistic, affected by the outbreak of COVID-19. However, when the disease was under control in March with increasing operating rates of paraquat producers and growing overseas demand, China witness a significant rise in export of paraquat in March, 2020, showing that paraquat export has been turning better.
