Organized by Inner Mongolia Agricultural University, the On-site Meeting of Improving Corn's Competitiveness in Northwest China and Yield Calculation of Direct-Harvesting Kernel of the National Modern Corn Industry Technology System was held on 1 Nov. At the meeting, key technologies in corn production including new agricultural machinery equipments, returning straw to field and kernel direct harvesting were demonstrated, and yield calculation of direct-harvesting kernel was conducted in compact-planting and high-yield tackling corn fields. The results show that yields of varieties like Zhongdan 103, Zhongdan 153 and Zhongdan 168 all exceed 1,000 kg/mu (calculated at 14% water content), 11%–15% higher than local main varieties. The water content of harvested kernels is 17%–19%, breakage rate is lower than 1.2%, and loss rate is lower than 1%, realizing direct kernel harvesting of high yield, low moisture, low breakage rate and high quality, which provides technical reserve for promoting production mode of corn kernel direct harvesting in Northwest China.
