The research project, the Excavation and Germplasm Creation of Important Functional Genes Including the Drought Resistance and Salt Tolerance of Wheat jointly carried out by Beijing Academy of Agriculture and Forestry Sciences and the CAAS achieved breakthrough. This project successfully cloned TaADF8 gene by utilizing electronic cloning method, which is expected to cultivate new wheat varieties with drought resistance, salt tolerance and high yield.

The innovation group led by Wan Jianmin published a research article named An Evolutionarily Conserved Gene, FUWA, Plays a Role in Determining Panicle Architecture, Grain Shape and Weight in Rice on the international authoritative journal The Plant Journal. This research provides theoretical basis for the explanation of molecular mechanism of panicle architecture and grain shape in rice, playing a positive role in excavating and utilizing new genetic variation resources.

China's planting area of corn in Heilongjiang, Jilin, Liaoning and Inner Mongolia accounts for about 38% of the total in China every year. These four northeastern provinces are China's important planting area of corn. However, China plans to reduce corn planting area of them in 2016.
