In early Feb., when the Spring Festival holiday approached, fungicide formulation producers shifted their priority from raw material restocking to non-stop production during the holiday to brace themselves for future uncertainty. Overall, most buyers were just making inquiries and not many deals were sealed. The prices of most fungicides were stable during the period.

Inner Mongolia Join Dream announced that the Phase I of its 1,000 t/a fluazinam TC project has been put into full operation. During Phase I, a 100 t/a fluazinam TC capacity has been built in the company's plant in the Wuda Industrial Park, Wuhai City, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.

The MOST released an agricultural National Key R&D Program (NPK) which consists of 12 dedicated projects, and solicited public opinions on the Guidelines for Tendering (Draft for Comments) of the projects. One of the dedicated projects is the R&D and Demonstration of Comprehensive Technologies for Control of Major Plant Diseases and Pests. The project focuses on improving the current crop disease and pest control system and strengthening the control of exotic species, with priority given to the basic theories, key technologies, major products and equipment related to controlling major plant diseases and pests in a green manner. There are 8 items of tasks included in the dedicated project, which will be implemented from 2021–2025.

According to the import and export data from Tranalysis, in 2020, China's chlorothalonil was mainly exported to Brazil, the US, Philippines, Mexico, and Colombia. Those destinations imported a total of 40,901.52 tonnes (actual amount) of chlorothalonil products from China, or 36,404.39 tonnes when all the products are measured by a content of 100%.

Heilongjiang Yaerdi plans to build a 13,000 t/a green fungicide, pharmaceutical intermediate and new eco-material project in the Industrial Valley of Lishu District, Jixi City, Heilongjiang Province. The project involves the following agrochemical TC products: prothioconazole, tebuthiuron, quinclorac, pymetrozine, and trifloxystrobin.

The phenamacril&middot;tebuconazole 480 g/L SC from Jiangsu Pesticide Research Institute is about to be approved for registration. The product will be registered to prevent and treat wheat powdery mildew, wheat rust and wheat head blight.

Zhejiang Udragon's 2,500 t/a difenoconazole TC technology upgrading project has been put into trial production since March, 2020. As the trial production goes on, the company is initiating the acceptance check in accordance with relevant laws and regulations. The project has increased the company's difenoconazole TC capacity from 500 t/a to 2,500 t/a, which will help the company secure its position as a leader in the Chinese difenoconazole TC market.

Jiangsu Changqing plans to form the production capacity of 16,500 t/a agrochemical TC and 20,000 t/a chemical during the Phase II of its new production base project. According to the makeup of the planned capacity in the Phase II, prothioconazole TC will become an important product in the company's agrochemical TC portfolio. Other agrochemical TC products involved in the Phase II include glufosinate-ammonium TC, s-metolachlor TC, lufenuron TC, fenoxanil TC, and mesotrione TC.

According to the national crop disease and pest monitoring system, and expert analysis, 2021 is expected to see heavy occurrence of major pests and diseases such as wheat stripe rust, fusarium blight, rice plant hopper and rice leaf roller, spodoptera frugiperda, armyworm and corn borer. To minimise losses to the diseases and pests, the Department of Crop Production, MOA formulated the National Action Plan on Protecting Crops from Diseases and Pests in 2021.
