Glyphosate China Monthly Report provides you with real-time intelligence on China's glyphosate market.

China is the world's largest producer of glyphosate, with 80% of the glyphosate produced in China being exported. Glyphosate is also still by far the most popular herbicide among Chinese farmers.

However, the industry is facing a number of serious long-term challenges. Increasing crop resistance threatens to make glyphosate less attractive to farmers, while research linking the product to cancer could lead to several key export markets banning the product altogether. Meanwhile, Chinese producers are struggling to comply with tough new environmental regulations and cope with severe industry overcapacity.

Glyphosate China Monthly Report will help you stay ahead of the game in this fast-changing market with real-time reporting on the entire glyphosate industry chain, from raw materials to end consumption. This includes:

In Sept., the ex-works price of China's glyphosate TC declined overall. Despite the low demand, the supply side favoured the growth of its price. In mid- to late the month, under the pressure of raw material costs, some producers raised the price. However, lacking support from demand, the price remains downward overall

In early Sept., the downstream demand for yellow phosphorus in China was weak. By mid-September, the ex-works price of yellow phosphorus increased under the price support by producers and the increase in the electricity cost. However, with the arrival of China's National Day holiday, orders from downstream purchasers of yellow phosphorus decreased, and its price is expected to stabilise or fall slightly in the next month

Published on 26th September, 2023

Entering Sept., the ex-works price of glycine still kept rising, while its downstream demand was declining. During Q1–Q3, its price basically showed a trend of rising first and then falling and, by the end of Q3, the increasing trend was still maintained. It is expected that the ex-works price of glycine in Q4 2023 will also see an upward and then downward trend

In Sept., 2023, 2 glyphosate formulations were approved for registration; 55 registrations for glyphosate products were renewed, including 7 for glyphosate TC, according to the Pesticide Management Division of China's Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs

Published on 21st September, 2023

In the first half of Sept., the operating rate of China's glyphosate TC producers decreased by roughly 9.62% MoM to 44%, which was mainly related to the pressure on both sales and raw material costs. The ex-works price of glyphosate TC is also decreasing, compressing the profit of the producers. It is expected that the rate will stay at a low level next month

In June–July 2023, China's glyphosate products were mainly exported to destinations including Argentina, Indonesia, Russia, India. Both the total export volume and glyphosate TC volume showed a YoY decline of above 75%

In the first half of Sept., China's glycine output levelled off month on month, since the operating rate of glycine producers in mid-to-late Aug. gradually turned from up to stable. It is estimated that domestic glycine output will decline in the next month

In Sept., China's National Development and Reform Commission announced that the public consultation on the revision draft of Guiding Catalogue for Industrial Structure Adjustment (2023 edition) has concluded, with glyphosate production equipment still listed in the restriction category and glyphosate AS products phased out

Published on 8th September, 2023

In early Sept., Shandong KingAgroot announced to construct 240,000 t/a pesticide and end-use formulation project, including 100,000 t/a 30% glyphosate·fluchloraminopyr ME and 30,000 t/a 260g/L glyphosate·flufenoximacil ME, as well as capacity for end-use formulations of fluchloraminopyr, flusulfinam, etc

In early Sept., Weifang Rainbow's fund-raising project of 25,000 t/a glyphosate is in progress. The project includes the capacity of 15,000 t/a through the glycine route and of 10,000 t/a through the IDAN route, which will be merged and upgraded in technology to build a set of 25,000 t/a glycine-route glyphosate production equipment as a whole
