Recent developments in vitamin drink products and project 07-23-2024

Summary: Several companies launched new vitamin drink products in the past few months. The EI report of "project for Red Bull drink production base in Guangxi-ASEAN Economic and Technological Development Zone" from TCP Red Bull (Guangxi) Beverage Co., Ltd. was accepted and published.

In late June, Shanghai Want Want Food Group Co., Ltd. (Want Want Food Group) launched a new product—"Want Want® Dali Energy Drink". This product contains imported Brazilian guarana extract, and ingredients such as taurine, vitamin B6, nicotinamide, maca powder, and caffeine, packaged in 500 ml bottles. The slogan reads "Replenish energy anytime, anywhere; the energy accompanies you with a dual nutrient blend". The product is suitable for people during sports, fitness exercise, overtime work, and exam preparation, and is already available on e-commerce platforms.

This is not the first energy drink product launched by Want Want Food Group, as it previously launched energy drinks named "Sha" and "Hui Hai". However, the "Want Want® Dali Energy Drink" is only one currently available amongst its energy drink product line. Want Want China Holdings Limited's annual report for fiscal year 2023 shows that its total revenue grew by 2.9% YoY, which was mainly driven by "dairy products and beverage segment", a segment accounting for 51% of the revenue.

In April, Nestle (China) Ltd. (Nestle China) launched a new product, "DOUNIUSHI® Energy Coffee Flavour Drink". This product contains taurine, B vitamins, and caffeine, packaged in 250 ml cans. It features a fusion flavour of "lightly sweet black coffee and refreshing vitamin drink", with a slogan "Essential for driving". It is produced by a partner of Nestle China and under the operations of Nestle China's ready-to-drink coffee team. Product sales began in both online and offline channels in H1 2024.

In March, Genki Forest (Beijing) Food Technology Group Co., Ltd. introduced a new product, "Genki Forest® Vitamin C Orange Flavour Carbonated Water". This product is sugar-free, fat-free, and calorie-free, packaged in 480 ml bottles. It has the two major characteristics of being sugar-free and fortified with vitamins. Each bottle contains 36 mg of vitamin C, meeting the daily vitamin C requirement of the human body, while retaining the refreshing taste of traditional carbonated drink.

On 14 June, the environmental impact (EI) report of the "project for Red Bull drink production base in Guangxi-ASEAN Economic and Technological Development Zone" from TCP Red Bull (Guangxi) Beverage Co., Ltd. was accepted and published by local authority.

Project overview

·         Investment amount: USD182.82 million (RMB1.30 billion), of which USD1.68 million (RMB12.00 million) will be for environmental protection purposes

·         Type of project: new construction

·         Site area: 166,666.88 square metres

·         Construction details: A comprehensive production workshop will be constructed, with four automated production lines to be built over two phases. New warehouses, utilities, and relevant supporting facilities will also be constructed.

·         Consumption of some raw materials:

·         0.515 t/a of vitamin B6

·         0.635 kg/a of vitamin B12

·         520.123 t/a of premixed materials (nicotinamide, taurine, etc.)

·         Annual production time: 312 days

·         Number of budgeted posts: 215

·         Construction period: 12 months, expected to end in May 2025
