According to sources from the Tianjin Economic-Technological Development Area, Beacon Coatings’ project for producing 50,000 tons of paint and 20,000 tons of resin has been approved.
Tianjin Beacon Coatings signed an investment
agreement for the project in March 2017. Due to the fact that the project is
located within the sea area of the Tianjin Nangang Industrial Zone, the company
has to obtain a sea area use license before starting the project. On May 18,
2017, China’s State Oceanic Administration issued a notice of the protection of
Bohai Sea’s ecological environment, specifying that projects related to land reclamation
in Bohai Sea should be suspended. As a result, Beacon Coatings’ Nangang project
has not.
Beacon Coatings project first to gain
approval for sea area land reclamation
In order to successfully implement the
project as soon as possible, the government of Tianjin city, together with the
management committee of Tianjin Binhai New Area and Tianjin
Economic-Technological Development Area, repeatedly coordinated with China’s
State Oceanic Administration and Ministry of Ecology and Environment.
Finally, on June 28, 2020, Tianjin Beacon
Coatings’ Nangang project was approved, and the company received a license of
sea area use for the project of 50,000 tons of paint and 20,000 tons of resin.
Beacon Coatings has become the first company to get a license for sea area use since
the suspension approval for projects related to land reclamation in seas
throughout China.
The total construction area of the project
is 34,000 square meters, with the total investment of RMB 350 million. After a
new factory is established, the annual production capacity will be 70,000 tons,
with 50,000 tons of paint and 20,000 tons of resin. The project recently has
completed the process of investigation and review and will start construction
by the end of 2020.

products comes from the Beacon brand: the first Chinese-made aircraft, the
first Hongqi brand car, the first tractor in China, the first Nanjing Yangtze
