(Wens) signed a contract with the People's Government of Yun'an District, Yunfu City, Guangdong Province on an integrated pig breeding project. It is reported that Wens intends to invest RMB 1 billion (USD 141.08 million) in Yun’an to build a breeding project that will produce 600,000 pigs per year. Other supporting constructions including one feed mill with an annual output of 300,000 tons, three high-efficiency breeding pig centers, and three technical service centers, one administrative center, etc. After the project is put into production, 600,000 pigs will be produced each year, with an annual output value of RMB 1.05 billion (USD 148.13 million), creating about 1,200 jobs.

Wens’ one-billion-RMB investment plan in a Yun’an breeding project to produce 600,000 pigs offers great security for Yunfu’s future pig supply. Weiguang Ye, a member of Standing Committee of CPC District Committee, said that the production of pigs will soon be resumed and the volume of pig production will increase depending on the mature operation mode of the Wens Group Company, their advanced technology, as well as their scientific management. The government in Yun’an province will create the greatest environment and top services for the breeding project. The government is committed to building a pork supplying plant in Yun’fu province, which will be the highest quality plant in Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

Officials announce improvement plan for pork industry

On September 13, the General Office of the State Council issued an announcement of promoting the transformation and upgrading of pig production. The announcement mentioned the recent reduction of pork production and problems of constraints on the long-term development of the pork industry. Some analysts think that the announcement offers security for stable pig production and it also shows the right direction of transforming and upgrading the pork industry.

The Deputy Minister, Kangzhen Yu, said in the news conference, “when it comes to the decrease of the capacity of pig production and short supplies for pork, several measures are mentioned in the announcement in the aspects of promoting and recovering pig production, regulating and managing pig breeding areas, transporting different kinds pigs and related pig products in an organized fashion, strengthening the control of African Swine fever (ASF), and enhancing monitoring systems of pig production and marketing. Implements of these measures will ensure pork supply in the market.”

Other departments also specify measures for delimiting and managing forbidden districts for livestock and poultry raising. For example, apart from permitted districts for raising stipulated by laws, no other areas may be used for raising livestock. The government offers support for the already established farm households in forbidden districts that wish to cease operation or relocate. The government plans to give a certain length of time before which farms must cease operation or relocate, and no “immediate shutdown” will be carried out.
