CCM: Xingmao Titanium’s 30000 tonnes per year chloride grade TiO2 project approved by MIIT 09-14-2016

On 11 Aug., 2016, a 30,000 t/a chloride grade TiO2 project independently developed by Luohe Xingmao Titanium Industry Co., Ltd. (Xingmao Titanium) passed Science & Technology Achievement Appraisal carried out by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of the People's Republic of China (MIIT).

The appraisal committee commented: “The project adopts production techniques for fluidizing chlorination and gas-phase oxidation which lead the field domestically and are advanced globally. Its 30,000 t/a production line can be put into stable and continuous operation, and production capacity can be fully realised. We hope that Xingmao Titanium can further promote these production techniques and develop more high-end products.”

Xingmao Titanium’s TiO2 product is of the highest quality in terms of major basic quality indexes and application performance in water- and solvent-based coatings and PVC plastics; in particular, its product is easily dispersed and its coverage and whiteness are even better than those of international famous brands, according to Chinese national third party CMA (China Metrology Accreditation) TiO2 testing institutions such as the National Coating Quality Supervision and Inspection Centre and the Jiangsu Zhenjiang Inter-China Testing Science and Technology Co., Ltd.

“We will continue to increase our investment in the research and development of core technologies and unite domestic scientific research institutions to make new technological breakthroughs in 100,000 t/a chloride grade TiO2 production,” said Li Mao’en, president of Xingmao Titanium.

According to CCM’s research, Xingmao Titanium has devoted itself to the research and development of production technologies of chloride grade TiO2 since 2001. It started to build its production line in March 2012 and later put it into a continuous 99-hour trial production at full scale and under full load in Sept. 2014. Daily output reached 100 tonnes and the product quality met specifications. In Jan. 2015, the company ran the production line for 25 days straight, signifying that the production line had entered a stage of stable and continuous operation.

So far, Xingmao Titanium has developed technologies such as fluidizing chlorination, gas-phase oxidation and fine titanium tetrachloride production techniques and gained 16 patents with completely independent intellectual property rights.

According to analyst CCM, the fact that Xingmao Titanium’s chloride grade TiO2 project passed the national science & technology appraisal is really good news for the Chinese TiO2 industry. As the first private-owned TiO2 company to have made breakthroughs in chloride grade TiO2 production, Xingmao Titanium and its success will attract more and more Chinese TiO2 companies to enter the market and make technological transformations.

Notably, since the second half of 2015 (H2 2015), China’s chloride grade TiO2 industry has entered a period of rapid growth. Besides Xingmao Titanium, Henan Billions Chemicals Co., Ltd. (Henan Billions) and Pangang Group Vanadium Titanium & Resources Co., Ltd. (Pangang Vanadium Titanium) have also made significant progress in chloride grade TiO2 production.

On 15 Dec., 2015, the international coating giant, PPG Industries, Inc., announced on its website that it is using chloride grade TiO2 products from Henan Billions to produce coatings and has endorsed the product quality.

On 15 July, 2016, Pangang Vanadium Titanium disclosed that its new chloride grade TiO2 project (with a total investment of USD16.60 million – RMB110 million) was under construction and is expected to be put into production in Nov. 2016 and then produce qualified products in Dec. 2016.
