Welcome to the March issue of Sweeteners China News 202303
Policy:
The Scientific Consensus on HMOs started drafting, and the English version of national standards for products such as edible glucose, maltose, HFCS and maltodextrin was approved by experts.
Price update:
Due to the insipid demand and reduced export orders, the ex-works prices of acesulfame-K and sucralose witnessed a major decline in March.
Market analysis & project updates:
- Anhui Jinhe received fewer orders for sweetener products in 2023, as a result of declined prices of acesulfame-K and sucralose as well as downstream customers' wait-and-see attitude towards purchasing. Besides, it is currently working on developing new products and biosynthesis technologies based on its experience in allulose production and by collaborating with universities.
- The EI report of Bailong Chuangyuan's HMOs and tagatose project was publicised. This project is expected to make it the first large functional sugar company that produces tagatose. Bailong Chuangyuan will still adopt the traditional technique for tagatose production although using the traditional method to produce tagatose is expensive.
- Zhucheng Dongxiao has completed the construction of its 30,000 t/a high-end erythritol project. But erythritol is still a glut on the market, and this situation is unlikely to change in the short term.
- As allulose is expected to be approved in China in 2023, many companies start to make allulose production plans. Hebei Yuwei initiated a project that includes the production of 500 t/a of allulose and Shengquan Group said it will use its IPO proceeds to invest in a new project—the 3,000 t/a functional sugar project. CCM thinks the functional sugar probably is allulose.
