On 20 March, 2014, Ministry of Agriculture issued national food safety standard——Maximum Residue Limits (MRLs) for Pesticides in Food (GB2763-2014), to take into effect on 1 Aug., 2014. The new standard includes newly-added 1,357 MRLs indexes of 65 pesticides, as compared with the 2012 version (GB2763-2012). Due to the new MRLs standard, the control of pesticides in the segment of sale and use would be stricter than before, especially for chemical pesticides. On the contrary, bio-pesticides featured low toxicity and low residues could benefit from the increasingly strict management for food safety.
Some producers are eyeing bio-pesticide industry at present. In the issue, it is reported that two new bio-pesticides production projects are about to launch in the coming years to enlarge their bio-pesticide capacity, including matrine and empedobacter brevis. It is believed that bio-pesticides would get more and more attentions in the domestic market in the coming days.
