For a long time, China's environmental protection's laws have been weak, and the enforcement of those laws is even weaker, including laws for the pesticide industry. To attract investment, some local governments even lower down the requirements for environmental protection. Indeed, the low investment in environmental protection has reduced the production cost of many products in China in the past years.
However, this situation may change. Chinese people are not satisfied about the environmental condition at present. Since 2012, the government has been strengthening the requirements for environmental protection, which will certainly continue in 2013. Pesticide companies have to invest more in clean production and waste treatment. This will increase the production cost of pesticides, but it is the right way for China to go.
In addition to pesticide production, the pollution from pesticide package wastes is quite serious in China. Chinese government plans to establish a pesticide container recycling system in the near future, to better prevent and control the soil pollution.
