According to the General Administration of Customs of the People's Republic of China (GAS), China's import volume of pesticides increased by 8.1% year on year in the first quarter of 2012 to 16,000 tonnes.
Although the import volume of fungicides ranked the second among all pesticide categories in China in Q1 2012, reaching 3,439 tonnes, its YOY growth rate witnessed a slip of 5.0%.
With the large-scale occurrence of crop diseases, the production and consumption of fungicides in domestic market have entered into peak period recently. For instance, China's output of carbendazim technical exceeded 14,000 tonnes (calculated by 100% AI, similarly hereinafter) in Q1 2012. Moreover, the sales volume of this fungicide from domestic market hit about 7,000 tonnes at the same time.
Azoxystrobin, the most popular strobilurin fungicide around the world, began to be in hot registration in China in 2010, and this situation has been still continuing since early 2012. Statistics from the Institute for the Control of Agrochemicals, Ministry of Agriculture (ICAMA) show that the registration quantity of azoxystrobin has reached eight from Jan. to late April this year, accounting for 40% of the total registrations of this fungicide during 2006~late April 2012 (not including repacking registration, similarly hereinafter).
