Since 1996, the starting year for the commercialization of genetically modified crops (GM crops), farmers in the world have been planting more and more GM crops year by year. China, after USA, Argentina, Brazil, Canada and India, is the sixth biggest GM crops grower in the world with the planting area of 3.8 million hectares in 2007.
