Policy:

Revisions of the National Food Safety Standard of Food Additive – Lactic Acid and the national standard of Quality Requirements for Organic Acids (Part 1): Citric Acid were drafted up; and the revised Industrial Standard for Sodium Gluconate (SG) was open for public comments, soon in place.

Citric acid industry:

China's citric acid capacity ramped up in 2023; however, overall industry data (including prices, exports, output, revenue and profit) were on the downside.

Lactic acid (LA) industry:

Jindan Technology reported declines in revenue and profit of Q1–Q3 2023.

Price:

In Q4 2023, the price of citric acid marked a continued decline; the quarterly average ex-works prices of monohydrate citric acid and anhydrous citric acid fell by about 4.7% and 6.5% QoQ, respectively.
