Welcome to the June issue of Sweeteners China News published by CCM, a professional consulting company which has been extensively and intently focusing on the dynamics of China's sweetener industry.

In the June issue of this newsletter, CCM paid attention to the national operating rate of two sweeteners products, namely aspartame and cyclamate. Actually, because of the sharp capacity increase while a little demand increase, both of the operating rates of domestic aspartame industry and cyclamate industry witnessed a downtrend during 2010-2012.

Moreover, some data showed poor performance of the domestic sweetener industry at the beginning of 2013. For example, according to the Q1 2013 financial reports of Luzhou Bio-chem and Xiwang Sugar, the performance of the domestic starch sugar industry did not turn better in Q1 2013. According to China Customs, the domestic sorbitol industry continued to be affected by the poor performance of China's VC export in the first four months of 2013.

Fortunately, not all sweetener producers in China have little confidence in the good prospect of the domestic sweetener industry. In May 2013, QHT proposed to set up a new subsidiary to promote the sales of its prebiotics end products, which will have a positive effect on the development of the domestic oligosaccharide industry.

Meanwhile, the sales volume of China's sucrose increased sharply in 2012/2013, but it is not time to predict that the price of the product in China will reverse the downturn in the following months, which means that the domestic sweetener industry, especially starch sugar, may continue to face sales pressure from the sucrose industry in 2013.
