In 2024, the situation of crop pests and diseases in China was generally severe. Major crops such as wheat, rice, and corn faced varying degrees of pest and disease threats, with significant pest and disease outbreaks in some areas, affecting agricultural production. These pests and diseases not only reduced crop yields but also posed potential risks to the quality of agricultural products and the ecological environment.

For 2025, the latest forecast from the National Agro-Technical Extension and Service Center shows that the situation remains concerning. It is expected that 23 major pests and diseases will be more severe on wheat, rice, corn, potatoes, and other major grain crops, as well as oil and vegetable crops. The total affected area is projected to reach 167.87 billion hm², an increase of 6.2% compared to 2024. Specifically:

• Wheat: The affected area of "four diseases and one pest" is projected to be 40.40 million hm², up 8.2% from 2024.
• Rice: The affected area of "three pests and two diseases" is projected to be 74.67 million hm², up 4.7% from 2024.
• Corn: The affected area of "four pests and three diseases" is projected to be 44.47 million hm², up 8.5% from 2024.

In the face of such a severe pest and disease situation, localities must pay high attention and prepare in advance for monitoring, early warning, and prevention and control. Scientific and effective measures should be taken to mitigate the impact of pests and diseases on crop yields and quality, especially in key areas and for major pest and disease types. This is essential to safeguard national food security and sustainable agricultural development.
