In Jan. 2014, the whole phosphorus chemical market maintained a flat status. Nonetheless, the depressed market kept the price of most downstream phosphorus products even weaker compared to the same period of last year.
Most phosphorus ore producers, especially those in Southwestern China begun to halt production due to the coming of the Spring Festival. The monthly downstream demand for phosphorus ore mainly came from phosphate fertilizer market as the whole phosphate fertilizer market entered storage period. Meanwhile, the demand for yellow phosphorus was weak due to the depressed downstream market. The phosphoric acid and fine chemical industry were confronted with a similar situation, and most enterprises unceasingly worked on orders received earlier in 2013.
The processing of yellow phosphorus tail gas has captured increasing attention in recent years, in mid-Dec. 2013, Tianjin Tanyi Synthesis Engineering Carbon Co., Ltd. (Tianjin Tanyi) completed the pilot-scale experiment of a new technology which uses yellow phosphorus tail gas to produce potassium dihydrogen phosphate (MKP) and formic acid. This new technology can make full use of yellow phosphorus tail gas efficiently, and will potentially improve the operations of phosphoric acid enterprises.
