The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of the People’s Republic of China (MOA) will continue carrying out special check of the agricultural crop seed market and special treatment of the regional illegal behaviours this spring. At the end of March 2018, BASF launched a soybean inoculant namely Bomvoro which is aimed at soybean seed treatment, onto Brazil. The Brazilian agrochemical market is gradually occupied by a few large-scale transnational enterprises and, therefore, the development of other competitors is curbed. In March 2018, Yuan Longping High-Tech Agriculture Co., Ltd. and China National Agrochemical Corporation jointly founded a subsidiary to develop, produce and sell corn seeds in China and to promote biotech advancement in this industry. On 2 April, 2018, the UK-based Croda announced the completion of the acquisition of Plant Impact. On 12 April, 2018, Beijing Dabeinong Technology Group Co., Ltd. set up a new subsidiary. On 11 April, 2018, the Indian agrochemical company Crystal Crop Protection announced its acquisition of Syngenta’s 3 seed businesses in India. Heilongjiang, Shaanxi and Hunan provinces and Chongqing Municipality announced authorised major crop seed varieties.

On 3 April, 2018, China’s MOA and Ministry of Finance jointly unveiled fiscal policies to support and strengthen agriculture and rural development. Corn planting is to benefit from this considerably. The subsidy policy has a stronger impact on soybean business than corn business. 7 million tonnes of corn reserves were sold in the first auction on 12 April. Expert believes that 2018 will see tremendous changes in China’s corn seed market
