August continues to be the peak season for glyphosate demand both domestically and internationally. In China, ex-works price for glyphosate continued to rise, primarily due to production halts for maintenance at some manufacturing plants, which led to decreased inventory and reduced market supply. Coupled with sustained strong downstream demand, these factors jointly drove the price increase.
In terms of project developments, progress on key raw material projects for glyphosate has been smooth. Jixing Chemical's technical upgrade project for an annual production of 53,000 t of yellow phosphorus has been successfully put into operation. Shandong Tongtai's project for an annual production of 40,000 t of paraformaldehyde has had its environmental impact assessment accepted for public review.
Regarding corporate updates, several listed pesticide companies have released their semi-annual reports for 2025. Among them, Hebang Biotechnology reported a significant decline in net profit for the first half of the year, though its glyphosate segment bucked the trend with growth. Weifang Rainbow saw a substantial increase in net profit for the H1 2025; however, two of its major glyphosate projects have faced multiple delays and are currently expected to be operational by July 2026.
On the policy front, the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Industry and Information Technology issued the Jiangsu Chemical Industry Restructuring, Restriction and Phase-out Catalog (2025 Edition, Draft for Public Comment), which newly classifies glyphosate aqueous solutions with a content below 30% as eliminated products.
In terms of trade and exports, China's glyphosate product exports reached 65,772.35 tonnes in May 2025, with Brazil remaining the largest export destination for Chinese glyphosate.
