In August, the herbicide market fluctuated. During the seasonal transition, some factories halted production for maintenance, adjusted inventory, and saw reduced exports. Most fulfilled prior orders, with raw material prices dropping 0.85% MoM. The herbicide market operated in an organised manner in August, with raw material prices primarily rising and trending towards long-term stability; chlor-alkali industry prices declined overall, while organic chemical raw material prices rose overall.
Company dynamics: On 2 August, 2025, Weihua New Materials announced that it intends to acquire a controlling stake in Jiangsu Corechem through a cash acquisition, in a move designed to extend its reach from upstream trifluoromethylbenzene intermediates into higher-value downstream pesticide formulations. On 7 August, 2025, Shandong NHU's EI report for the 60,000 t/a phosphorus-containing amino acid derivative project was publicised. In August 2025, 10 herbicide companies that went public successively released their semi-annual reports for 2025. Among them, Weifang Rainbow, Yangnong Chemical, Noposion, and 5 other companies achieved double growth in both revenue and net profit. However, Wynca Chemical, Hebang Bio, and Guangxin Agro experienced a decline in both revenue and net profit.
Policy: On 5 August, 2025, the Department of Industry and Information Technology of Jiangsu Province issued the Catalogue of Restriction and Elimination for Chemical Industry Structure Adjustment in Jiangsu Province (2025 Edition, Draft for Comments), which includes restrictions and eliminations on the production and facilities of several herbicide products.
Registration: On 29 July, 145 herbicides were announced to be approved for pesticide product registration. Glufosinate-P leads in the number of product registrations, with 3 TCs, 17 single formulations and 1 mixed formulation.
Trade analysis: From Jan. to July 2025, total export volume and value of herbicide formulations from China increased by 14% and 9% YoY, respectively. In July, the export volume and value increased by 16% and 12% YoY, respectively.
