Welcome to April Issue of Sorbitol China News (Vol.1 Issue 4 2018).

Shandong Dazecheng started construction of its 1 million t/a corn deep-processing project in late March. Upon the completion of the project, 40,000 t/a of sorbitol can be produced.

Shandong Tianli reached a partnership with a Singaporean company to develop a 210,000 t/a sugar alcohol project. 200,000 t/a of sorbitol and 10,000 t/a of trehalose will be produced. At present, Shandong Tianli is the biggest sugar alcohol producer in Asia, and the project will further strengthen its competitiveness.

Global Bio-chem has been actively making transformations following the bankruptcy crisis. Now it has developed isosorbide, pentamethylene diamine, amylose and more biochemical monomers and is working to transform its arginine and chemical alcohol businesses.

In terms of imports and exports, during 2013 – 2017, China’s sorbitol import volume and prices kept decreasing, whereas the export volume and prices increased. The main reason of this was the fast development of the industry in recent years. China is now home to many sorbitol producers with a large production capacity in total.
