Trade analysis: China's main grain imports in the first four months of 2025 have plummeted, with wheat down by 83%, corn down by 95.1%, and only rice imports increased; In April 2025, China's import volume of seeds of soybean, corn and vegetables increased by 128.99% MoM to 1,600.179 tonnes, while the export volume droped by 20.07% MoM to 852.879 tonnes.
Policy: The revised Regulation on the Protection of New Varieties of Plants will come into effect on 1 June, 2025. Its goals are to strengthen the protection of plant variety rights, promote innovation in breeding, standardize the application process for these rights, enhance the quality and efficiency of authorization, and improve the convenience for all relevant parties.
Variety: Shandong Province publicizes the list of 163 proposed high-quality crop varieties for promotion in 2025, covering multiple types; On 1 May, 2025, China's Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs issued an announcement granting new variety rights to 2,797 plant varieties, boosting the seed industry's development.
